The EC-3+ Clean Air System will reduce ethylene levels up to 95% to reduce shrink and extend shelf life. The EC-3+ is not only a unique ethylene removal machine but is also very effective at killing airborne contaminants such as bacteria, molds, rots, listeria, viruses, and noxious odors.
A study by QMS Agri Science in South Africa demonstrated that the EC-3+ clean air machine not only removed 95% of airborne ethylene it also had similar effects on bacteria and mold levels. It showed significantly greater effectiveness than Ozone generators at a greatly reduced cost. Also, it does not offer some of the adverse consequences of increased ozone levels. With the increased environmental consciousness increased ozone levels are not necessarily beneficial.
Customers say they work very well to control odor and mildew in their cold storage.
The unit holds 100 lbs. of the patented Super Fresh Media. The media can effectively lower ethylene gas readings in storage areas up to 150,000 cubic feet, depending on the commodities being stored. In larger rooms more EC-3+ units can be used Example: In a 300,000 cubic foot room, you would need two EC-3+ systems.
The media start out a bright purple and turn brown from the outside in. You need to crush a half a handful of media after about 2 months to see how much purple is left. Then check the media about once a month.
When there is 25% purple and 75% brown it is time to order new media.
Media life varies depending on commodity and storage conditions.
A single charge of media can last three to six months or longer with produce and up to a year with floral. At the end of your season, if the Super Fresh Media isn’t used up, simply store them away in a sealed plastic bag and use them the next season.
You can place the unit most anywhere in the room, as the units are on casters, just make sure it doesn’t block the airflow. The unit works in conjunction with your cooling systems' air movement.
